Engineering your futureTY programme

Hosted by a number of colleges around the country, the Engineering Your Future programme for Transition Year students provides a week of exposure to the various engineering disciplines. Attending students gain a meaningful, practical insight into engineering at third level and as a career - interacting with lecturers and graduates, taking part in workshops and meeting engineers during industry visits. Applications open each January, and the programme runs in May. For details visit the EYF section.

Teachers Presentation

This 10 slide PowerPoint presentation is suitable for ages 12 plus and can be used in the classroom to help explain what engineering is. Each slide contains speaker notes in the notes pane below the slide. The notes are a suggested script for the slides. The notes will help you explore some of the myths/perceptions about engineering that students may have, and to inform them about the engineering profession.

Career videos

Smart Futures videos highlight engineers working in Ireland who talk about what they studied at college and what their job in engineering is like.

Maths resources

Mathematics is a core subject for all would-be engineers and STEPS provides a number of free resources for teachers and students, including maths competitions, maths tutorials and videos, and downloadable lesson plan ideas. Visit the Maths section to find out more.
