Why Volunteer?
STEPS run a number of initiatives at primary and post-primary level, while also attending numerous events throughout the year. STEPS is always looking for energetic and enthusiastic volunteer engineers who will inspire and encourage young people of all ages to pursue a career in engineering.
Smart Futures Programme
The Smart Futures programme in association with ICT Ireland (IBEC) aims to increase the uptake of careers in engineering and technology. The programme sends enthusiastic industry volunteers into schools to speak about the diversity of engineering or technology as a career.
It allows students to remain in their own classroom environment and opens an arena for them to ask questions. STEPS provide volunteer engineers with an interactive presentation and support materials to facilitate a fun and interesting session in the school.
The Smart Futures Seminar run by STEPS and ICT Ireland aims to inform employers of the importance of the technology sector’s engagement with students.
Xperience Engineering Project
The Xperience Engineering Project is a primary school initiative which aims to spark an interest in engineering while covering important curriculum links. Over the course of four months participants are given a unique opportunity to explore how engineering surrounds them in their locality and how engineering affects their daily lives.
Schools register to compete in this project and then have four months to develop their ideas. All projects compete to be represented in the top 40 schools in the country. Volunteer engineers can visit the class to give an insight into the world of engineering and to give advice on the students project.
